Heal your Daughter

Frequently Asked Questions

When and how can I reach you?

You may call me any time at 800-617-1077. If you call during my usual work hours, Monday through Thursday from 10 to 5, and I am not in session, you can reach me directly. Otherwise, leave a message and I will call you back. Calls received during non-work hours I respond to on my next work day.

How does coaching work?

Initially when we speak, we will schedule a time to talk in more depth. As we clarify your needs and concerns and develop a plan, we will structure our future contact. In general, coaching offers the most consistency and support when conducted on a weekly basis. By connecting weekly, we can plan specific actions for you to take and then follow up on what has and has not been helpful for you. Weekly contact also helps sustain your momentum in moving ahead and minimizes the risk of your getting stuck in the process you have undertaken. How long you will want to work with me will become clearer as we define the steps you need to take to help you heal your daughter and move forward with your own life.

How is coaching different from therapy?

In coaching, a clear direction is established and the particular actions required to move towards a stated goal are specified. The steps taken and their outcome become the platform for creating a plan for the next steps to be taken. The focus is on what has and hasn't worked in the intervening week and on modifying the course of action accordingly. While the emotional concerns evoked by the situation are addressed, a lot of time is not spent delving into the basis of the emotions. In therapy, more emphasis is placed on exploring how a situation has developed and on understanding the emotional content and psychological blocks to change.

Where do I begin?

Begin by calling me at 800-617-1077. I will ask you a few questions to help establish what you need, and then schedule an initial session when we can talk longer. In our first session, I will guide you in clarifying your concerns, respond to your questions, and develop a plan to address your specific situation.

Can you really help me?

There are very few stories I haven't heard. I have helped many mothers and I will do my best to help you as well. I provide an opportunity for you to express your feelings and concerns without judgment or criticism. As you and I talk about your situation, I help you clarify your needs and formulate the steps you need to take. I encourage and support you in implementing the actions we have outlined and am available for ongoing feedback and guidance.

Will coaching be effective over the phone?

Much of my coaching I do by phone. We will schedule a time when you will not be interrupted during which I will listen to your concerns, respond to your questions and offer you support and guidance.

Will you talk with my daughter?

My role is to help you so that you can talk more effectively with your daughter. Through our discussion, I will better understand the difficulties you have speaking with your daughter, and explore some alternative ways for you to converse with her. It is far more empowering for you, and feels safer for your daughter, when you can speak directly with her. Finding a satisfactory way of communicating with each other will forge a healthier connection between the two of you.

Will you help me find a therapist for my daughter?

I have information about therapists who are eating disorder specialists in many geographical areas. I can give you specific referrals and/or put you in touch with appropriate referral sources to assist you in finding your daughter the treatment she needs.
